Overview
The Convert Multiple Zip Codes To City, State or City, State
To Zip Codes Software is a convenient method to convert one or many Zip Codes
into their corresponding City and State.
Conversely, the software may be used to convert city and state combinations
into their assigned zip codes. The
software is very easy to use. The user
simply supplies one or more zip code to convert to a city and state and/or one
or more city and state to convert to a zip code. Pressing the “Start Converting” button starts
the conversion process. Once complete
the user may save the result to a text file, Excel or the clipboard.
Main Screen
The Convert Multiple Zip Codes To City, State or City, State

Zip Codes or City, State combinations may be added one by
one or multiple at a time. As zip codes
or city, state combinations are added,
Adding Individual Zip Codes or City, State Combination
To add an individual
zip code or city, state combination

Add a zip code or
city and state combination in the “Enter city, state or zip code to add:” field
and press the “OK” button to close the dialog and add the entry to the Zip
Codes list on the Main Screen. To close
the dialog, without adding a new entry to the list, press the “Cancel” button.
For example, if a
user needed to know what city the zip code 03060 was assigned to, they would
enter it in the dialog as shown below:

Pressing the “OK”
button, will add the entry to the Zip Code list on the Main Screen, as shown
below:

Similarly the zip
code could have been replaced by a city and state. Pressing the “Start Converting” button will
convert the zip code to a city state and display it in the Results list.
Adding Multiple Zip Codes or City, State From a File
Multiple zip
codes, multiple city and state pairs or a combination of the two may be added
all at once by loading them from file(s).
To do this, press the “Load City, State or Zip From File” button. This will display the dialog shown below:

The file must be
in ASCII text format. There must be one
entry only per line. Each line must have
either a five digit zip code or a city and state combination. For example, the zips,txt
file shown above contains the following:
03060
01950
01913
Portsmouth, NH
After selecting
the file(s) containing the desired zip codes and/or city and state
combinations, press the “OK” button to close the dialog and have all of the
entries loaded into Zip Codes list on the Main Screen. To close the dialog without selecting any
files, press the “Cancel” button. In the
example above, if the Zips.txt file was chosen and the “OK” button is pressed
the Main Screen would appear as follows:

Starting a conversion
Once all of the
zip codes and/or city and state combinations are added to the Zip Codes list on
the Main Screen, the conversion can be started by pressing the “Start
Converting” button. Once the button has
been pressed the software determines the city, state for each zip code entered
and a zip code for each city, state entered and displays the results in the
Results list. For example, with the data
entered as above, pressing the “Start Converting” button will produce the
following results:

Whether a zip
code or a city, state combination is generated, the Results list always
displays the City, State and Zip Code for each entry, on a single line.
Clearing the Input
The entire
content of the Zip Codes list can be cleared by pressing the “Clear” button.
Saving Results
Once the results
have been produced and displayed in the Results list, they may be saved. The user may choose what data is to be saved,
and then save that data to a text file, clipboard or Excel.
Save Options
The user may
choose what data is to be saved by selecting one of the following from the
“What part of the results would you like to save?” drop down:
Choose City,
State and Zip
Choose Just City
Choose Just State
Choose Just Zip
Choose Just City
and State
The option selected
determines what will be saved when the data is saved to a text file, Excel or
copied to the clipboard.
Save Results as Text
After results
have been generated the user may choose to save the results as text. To save the result to a text file press the
“Save Results as Text” button on the Main Screen. Pressing the button will display the dialog
shown below:

Select the folder
to which the results text file should be written and type the name of the text
file in the “File name:” field. Press
the “Save” button to write the desired results to the selected file. The format will be plain ASCII text. There will be one line per result with the
first line being field names. For
example with the following results and the options shown below:

Whatever data was
selected to be saved by the user in the “What part of the results would you
like to save?” dropdown will be written to the selected text file.
Save Results To Excel
Similarly the
results can be written to Excel by pressing the “Save Result To Excel” button. Pressing the button will execute Excel with
the data displayed. For example the same
results and options displayed above would generate the following output in
Excel:

Copying Results To Clipboard
The chosen data
for the generated results can be copied the clipboard using the “Copy Results
To Clipboard” button. Once the button
has been pressed the user can hold down the “CTRL” key on the keyboard and
press “V” to paste the results to any text field. An example of the data copied to the
clipboard, given the results and the options shown above, is displayed below:

Clearing the Results
The entire
