Accessing The “Add Text” Functionality
To access the functionality of the “Add Text” Add-In, simply click on the “Add Text” menu item in the Add-Ins menu. This will display the following menu

The menu is divided into sections. The first section has entries to allow the
user to enter text at the beginning or end of a selected range of cells. The next section has selections for adding
text before or after existing text in a selected range of cells. The third section allows entry of new text in
a specified numeric position in a selected range of cells. The fourth allows the user to insert new text
before or after upper or lower case letters in a selected range of cells. The fifth allows the user to pad the right of
each cell in a range with spaces, out to a specified width. The last section is for application specific
information.
Specifying Text To Add To Cells
Selecting any of
the menu items that allow the user to specify what text should be added to each
cell in the range of selected cells will result in the following dialog being
displayed:

The user may
choose to add specific text. To do this
the user would select the radio button labeled “Text” and enter the text to add
in the edit box such as:

In this case the
string foo will be added in the specified location. If the user simply wants to embed a return
character in each cell of the selected range of cells then the radio button
labeled “Enter” should be selected. If
the user simply wants to embed a tab character in each cell of the selected
range of cells then the radio button labeled “Tab” should be selected.
This applies to
all of the menu items outlined in red below:

Specifying An Insertion Character(s)
Some of the menu
items allow text to be added before or after specific text in a cell. If this is the case the user will be prompted
with the following dialog, before being prompted for the text to add:

Specify the
character(s) to find in the cell, before or after which the new text will be
added. If the character string entered
does not exist in a particular cell in the range, no new text is added. This dialog is displayed for the menu items
below outlined in red:

Specifying An Insertion Position
Some of the menu
items allow text to be added to a numeric position in each cell of a selected
range of cells. When one of these menu
items is selected, the user will be asked for the numeric position in the cell
where the text should be added. This is
done before the user is prompted for the text to add as described above using the
following dialog:

The numeric
position refers to the position of the character in the cell where the text
will be inserted before or after. The
only characters entered here must be digits.
This dialog is
displayed for each of the menu items outlined in red below:

Padding Selected Cells with spaces
It is sometimes desirable to have fixed width cells. That is, every cell has exactly the same amount of characters, with the right hand side padded with spaces. You can achieve this quickly and easily with this software by choosing:
![]()
This will display the following dialog prompting the user for the desired fixed width of the cells

If the value entered here is not greater than the number of characters in the longest cell, nothing is done. Otherwise all of the cells are padded on the right with space, out to the width specified.
